Our Cycling Weekenders are time efficient cycling breaks exploring the most iconic cycling locations made famous by the Grand Tours and the Monuments. Running from Wednesday to Sunday, you'll stay in one place and you'll have 4 epic fully supported days on a bike. Our Weekenders Series includes: the Stelvio, the Dolomites, Mont Ventoux, Flanders and coming soon are Alpe d'Huez and Angliru. We offer set dates throughout the year but groups can contact us to request alternative dates.

The Stelvio Weekender is four days set in the spa town of Bormio with daily rides including both sides of the Stelvio, the mighty Mortirolo and stunning Gavia. With two fully supported route options each day, this is suitable for riders of different abilities with a love for the mountains.

This is one of the great cycling weekends for climbers. Over 4 days you climb the Stelvio (from both sides), the Gavia & Mortirolo as well as some great local routes that many people find to be their best climb of the trip. Each of the three main riding days are tough with two or three climbs per day and over 3,000m of elevation, but the payoff is riding in a varied and stunning part of the world and ticking off some proper bucket list climbs. Bormio is the perfect place to relax after a ride with some nice ice cream shops, markets and hot springs. Bring strong legs and a big rear cassette for the ultimate Stelvio cycling holiday!

Tour Highlights

Climb both sides of the Stelvio: It's one of the world's great climbs. Both sides are completely different and equally iconic.

Tackle the Mortirolo & Gavia Double: After an easier day, we dish up the mighty Mortirolo and the stunning Gavia.

Relax in Stunning Bormio: Our base is a lovely spa town. Wander the cobbled streets, relax in the hotel spa or visit the thermal baths.

Your Itinerary

Wednesday : Arrival & Warm Up Ride

Arrive at Bergamo Airport before 10.30am for the transfer to Bormio which will leave the airport no later than 11.00. We arrive in Bormio at around 2pm where our mechanic will be waiting to help build bikes. After check-in to the hotel you have time to go for a 25km warm up spin before our welcome dinner at 7.30pm with a brief on the week.

Thursday : Stelvio Loop

Front Group 115km & 3930m

Main Bunch 72km & 2813m

The Queen Stage. We start at 8.30am (depending on weather / time of year) and immediately start the climb to the Stelvio from Bormio. The front group get to the summit of the Stelvio, descend the Umbrail pass before lunch in Prato. From there it is just 48 hairpins back to the top and a descent home! The main bunch climb from Bormio before descending half way down the Prato side (the iconic part) before lunch and then climbing the last 13km of the second side & descending back to the hotel. We set up feed stops regularly and there is a lead guide with each group. After the ride we grab a beer on the terrace before dinner at 7.30pm.

Friday : Cancano / Livigno

Front Group 93km & 2831m

Main Bunch 54km & 1663m

A "slightly" easier ride after a big day on the Stelvio. We roll out slightly later at 9.30am to allow for a more relaxed morning and head over to the beautiful climb of Cancano for the Main Bunch and on to Livigno over two climbs for the Front Group. This is one of the pro team capitals of Europe in the summer with most teams having a base here to prepare for the Tour. For the Main Bunch we come back to Bormio and take on the climb of Bormio 2000 before descending into town for lunch.

Saturday : Mortirolo / Gavia Loop

Front Group 111km & 3330m

Main Bunch 109km & 3072m

Another roll out at 8.30am, and we descend down the valley to Grosio where you have the choice of which side to climb the mighty Mortirolo. The first side from Grosio is 14km at 8% or continue to Mazzo for the famous side, 12km at 11%. We meet at the top and then descend and ride to Ponte di Legno for lunch. From here, we climb the Gavia before descending back to Bormio.

Sunday : Departure Day

Our transfer home is at 10am so a well-earned lie in, late breakfast and time for some last minute souvenirs before heading home. The transfer takes approximately 3 hours, so please book flights to depart from Bergamo after 1500 (3pm) in the afternoon.
