Your Experience

The Dublin Marathon was first run in 1980 and has since developed into a firm favourite on the European city Marathon calendar. The Dublin Marathon is a firm favourite amongst international runners as it leads all other marathons in Europe with the number of foreign competitors taking part.

The Marathon course is a single lap, starting and finishing close to the city centre. Conditions for marathon running are ideal with the weather conditions in Dublin being mild this time of year. With the race start and finish being in the centre of Dublin, this is an easy event logistically. The course is mostly flat with a long stretch through Phoenix Park.

The Dublin Marathon starts at Georgian Fitzwilliam Square to the East of St. Stephens Green and finishes in Merrion Square. Runners will go through Dublin's historic streets dating back to the Georgian period. Landmarks passed are Trinity College, Herbert Park, St. Stephens Green and Phoenix Park.

This great city centre Marathon is a great opportunity to add on a longer visit to Ireland. Our packages are available to all. We cannot sell race entries to residents of the island of Ireland.

Your Itinerary

Friday 27th October – Arrival day

Make your way to Dublin and on arrival check in to your chosen hotel. Usually, hotel rooms are ready after 3pm; if you arrive earlier please be prepared to leave your luggage with the hotel concierge and head off to the Marathon Expo to collect your race documents. The MARATHON EXPO takes place in the main hall of the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) and has plenty to see. We recommend you allow plenty of time to collect your race documents, shop from the many exhibitors, listen to the experts on stage and enjoy the pre-race day vibe. Details of how to get to the expo from your chosen hotel will be detailed in your itinerary. The rest of the day you can relax and prepare for race. If you have any questions please meet with one of the Marathon Tours & Travel team in the hotel lobby.

Saturday 28th October – Expo and registration

Those on the two night packages will arrive today. Anyone who did not have the chance to visit the expo Friday, will have today to collect race packs and any extras that you have ordered.

Today’s MARATHON EXPO times: 09.00 to 19.00. The latest race kit collection time is 6pm on Saturday.

After attending the expo, put your feet up and relax ahead of the event tomorrow.

Sunday 29th October – RACE DAY

This is the day you have trained so hard for! After an early breakfast please get ready to leave the hotel. The start location at Fitzwilliam Street Upper, approximately 30 minutes’ walk from the hotel or a 15-minute Uber ride.

Family and friends will have lots of opportunities to spectate along the race route. The Marathon Tours & Travel team will be happy to advise. After the race make your way back to the hotel, freshen up, celebrate…you deserve it!

The Merry Ploughboy – Optional Extra

The Merry Ploughboy dinner & show offers a traditional Irish dinner time experience. You will be collected by coach from your hotel late afternoon, and you will take your seat in front of the stage for the evening. Enjoy a drink and the 3-course traditional Irish meal whilst enjoying the Irish dancing, fiddle playing and Irish songs. This full night of entertainment is ideal to be enjoyed after the Marathon as the show finishes at 10.00pm. This activity is not included in the accommodation package. If you wish to join the celebration you will need to add this on to your booking at check out.
